False Lights From The Land

This is a class piece of music,

In a world where genius is an over used term, Richard Hawley deserves the title, because his song writing just gets better and better…..

There is nothing else, musically that reminds me of my roots, and Sheffield, than Richard Hawley, I have been lucky enough to see him live, twice, and he blows other performers away, he has to be one of the under-stated musicians of our time.

If you get the chance, listen to his stuff, or see him live !

I meant to mention also

If you make the wise decision to see Richard Hawley live, then stop by the merchandise stall….

( if not for all ( or most ) cd albums for a tenner , and signed )

But I have been after R.Hawley and the feral cats 12 ” for ages, and various online music stores are always out of stock, but the stall were selling them for a fiver. !!  bargain,

Man – what a day…

I left work, got some food, and headed off to Swansea, on a road that arguably I have not travelled since before I could drive, which brough back some memories !! all the parking had changed to permit holders around Brangwyn Hall so after driving around, and around for a while, I stubbled on a side road by the law court, My friend had stumbled on to the wrong venue !! and was a little late,

Not to worry as the support act had gottan lost also, and were late, they were ok, my friend fell for the lead singer of the support band.

Then Richard Hawley arrived on stage – yep – late…   cut his finger on a safety razor, before coming on stage !  But as always didn’t disappoint.

I often wonder what kind of audience Mr. Hawley would like to play to, he GETS an older crowd, Does he prefer this ? who knows, but they and I, were appreciative !, the reviews previous that I had read were not at all true, he was very upbeat, interacting with the audience, and there was a good atmosphere, probably helped by the buidling which was pretty spectacular,

He mainly focused on his new album, with a lot of Coles Corner thrown in , and only a few from Lady’s Bridge. I wish he would play some of his earlier stuff, but hey , I can’t complain!!

The big difference with Richard Hawley is he always seems honest. His music is honest, and he too, comes across as a genuine person, his Thanks at the end of of the gig, bearing in mind the credit crunch, and the fact him and the band appreciated us turning out to see him, went down well, it almost sounded like a line from “something changed” by Pulp, maybe theres a reference there who knows !!

If you get a chance to see Richard Hawley, go. it truly is an uplifting experience, I always feel on a crest of a wave after seeing him live, and proves that however melancholy his music may sound, there is always happy ending to it.

Would you ever hear these 3 bands in 1 sentence !??  NO

I heard on Mammal on Scuzz Tv, and loved the above song,  mainly for the timing of the song, and the band play really tight.

Well I got the album, and there is a real mixture of stuff on there, from mainstream rock, a bit of funk, and so far ( i’m only on track 5 ) it is very good,

Now Five Finger Death Punch… “war is the answer”

This album rocks from the outset,

The production is alot cleaner than “the way of the fist ” but this is no bad thing.

Also the album maintains it’s growling Ivan lyrics, whilst if anything going more melodic !and there are more guitar solo’s than you can throw a knuckle duster at ! and good ones !

This band are going to be big !

Richard Hawley – True love’s gutter.

Well the Sheffield singer has produced once again !! a masterpiece.

The album sounds like it was lost in a bygone year, a bit like DukeSpecial , but only a different era.

Some reviews have called it a “sad” album…   I can’t see it as being sad, emotional yes, atmospheric – yes. Last person to leave the disco, with the disco ball throwing shattered light around the room , Yes ! only do n’t be the last person to find this gem ! be there first , ‘cos the alum is great ! “as the dawn breaks” “ashes on the fire” , and ” for your lover give some time” are just a few to note,

not a driving cd,  but very very good !!

When painting, I’m strange

I enjoy painting the walls, but hate the gloss, man what a bind gloss is !!!!

Also I have to paint barefoot, I can’t tell you why, cos I do not know, it just feels right… i am at one with the roller or something !!

strangeness over………….. too much honesty for an early morning!

So the back room needs painting again, J chose the colours, I do the work ,seems a fair swap…  ? eh ?  hmmm.

D will probably have a thousand questions !

When painting, you need a soundtrack, it helps the time go by

It was a warm summer nite, last nite, so I thought it was time I dug out a little Lemon Jelly, as it hasn’t been heard lately, good …..   but not quite good enough, cue Richard Hawley, off of Sheffield fame. and surprisingly it worked,

2 albums later there were nearly 2 coats of matt covering the purple and pink walls ( classy eh ?? )

oh yeah…   when leading supermarkets sell off DIY products, do not buy the cheap rollers !!!  cos , they , are, cheap, and basically crap !! investing a litlle in your tools, pays dividends,

I learnt this last nite !!!
